Is Beauty Really Skin Deep?

November 2014 Channelling

Skin has become the focal point of many people’s lives. The pressure to change the way we look is so intense. The Botox and facelift craze has become almost a parody of itself. Of course we all care about how we look. But how much kinder it would be if we could find our confidence from within; to know that our own light shines out sufficiently to make us beautiful to others. If only we could risk showing our real face to the rest of the world.

Guidelines

“The skin has its own relationship to the external world; it is a living, breathing organ of receptivity to the environment. It is a highly sensitive mechanism that allows the rest of the body to regulate and undulate under its direction. The skin tells us how we are, the state of our health. It offers us the deepest insights about the passing moods and vibrations that govern our wellbeing.

Imagine there is a beautiful, warm, southerly wind blowing in your face, blowing directly onto your skin. Imagine the skin as the receptor of this lovely energy, and feel the wonderful sense of benign, inner contentment it brings.

Feel the most challenging mood inside and yet, when your face is touched by that gentle wind, something overcomes you. It overrides those difficult feelings and allows you to feel good in the world.

May we suggest that the wind has changed. It is as though, metaphorically, there is a warm, southern wind blowing onto planet earth, where before it was a harsh east wind – bracing and challenging – which set your teeth on edge. When the wind blows heavily from the east a residual anxiety touches the skin, infiltrating deep down, penetrating the tissues of the body. The whole body feels chilled; the chill of fear. The world has been afraid.

But now the wind has changed; the wind is blowing warmly from the south and the skin responds in a very different way. The skin itself is being warmed, smoothed, massaged gently by the south wind, as though by the most tender, gentle fingers of those who really love you. As this permeates through from the skin, the whole body begins to relax.

This incredible organ, the skin, has so much power and the skin itself is now responding in a new way. The skin can begin to recognize itself as the instigator of a new being inside its own skin. The skin of your whole body is being changed by this south wind, and this first organ of defence need no longer be defensive. It can now be receptive. It can allow the whole of you to feel welcome in the world; to be here, on earth, safely. The new wind, the new skin, is like a catalyst, encouraging you to expand and feel good without drugs, alcohol or any stimulant. (which, of course, spoil and distort the skin).

Getting under someone’s skin begins to mean the opposite of what it used to mean. Instead of annoying you relate in a different, more resonant, way. You feel much closer, less judgemental and can value people at face value. When you value those you meet at skin value, there is greater integrity and trust; a better understanding between you.

Skin deep. Only skin deep. On the contrary to be skin deep is very deep indeed.

The skin is the most sensitive organ between the inner and outer worlds now. We need to take care of our skin; to pamper the skin, to acknowledge the skin. And as we become more aware of the purpose of our skin and appreciate our skin, the skin itself will respond, enhancing its function as a major organ of receptivity. It’s a two-way flow

And perhaps the current trend for changing the face, doctoring the skin in order to feel good about ourselves, will become less addictive . Perhaps, eventually, we’ll feel good enough inside, and leave the skin alone, free to complete its task.

Beauty, after all, is truly skin deep”.
