Annie’s Notebook 2
WAKING UP TO OURSELVES
A regular review: for those who feel there’s something more.
This month’s topic
As we come towards the end of this remarkable year 2012, the effects of the moon feel unusually powerful.
What is the meaning of this month’s eclipses? (November 13 and November 28)
“The moon has almost come to the end of its influence on planet earth. The moon’s task has been to orientate the cyclical nature of man’s journey to consciousness. And now believe it or not, it is almost ready to loosen its astral pull on earth.
The Fallen Angel – the once magnificent Lucifer – is the rightful deva of the moon. And the influence of the moon has been the main instrument in man’s journey to consciousness; the understanding that he came to earth as ‘a lost soul’, fallen from Grace, in order to become fully human.
The moon‘s task, then, has been to bring the history of mankind round and round and round again, in order for us to achieve (through the redemption of our emotional weaknesses and failures) the ultimate realisation: that our destiny is to realign once again with the Angelic realms.
In other words, with the help of myths and metaphors, we are led to consciousness, and the intrinsic knowledge that man is not only a being of base material, but also made from the stars.
Right now we are experiencing a crescendo of darkness. Episodes of strife, unpleasant outcomes, revelations, excesses, are being thrown up thick and fast. It feels precipitous, and for some people, unsafe.
So why are we witnessing such dark examples of our basest nature?
Because we must now see that we can no longer live by bread alone; that greed and gross wrong-doing will no longer work. It is time to acknowledge our Divinity.
When we are able to do that we cannot but change our behaviour and establish new values.
So this is the meaning of the eclipse of the sun in Scorpio: the darkness in man revealed at its worst.
But 2012 is not the end of the world; it is the turning point. And so we come, two weeks later, to the eclipse of the Moon.
This suggests we can and are emerging. We can integrate the darkness and the light of what it is to be human. We can know ourselves as the beautiful creatures we truly are, fabricated from the cloth of our spiritual nature. It means we can, and should, follow those glimpses and intuitions, explore our creativity more broadly and with greater and higher purpose.”
Questions for Topic of the Month: Annie cannot answer personal questions on this page, but will endeavour to answer one general question a month if you’d like to ask. She will notify you if your question is chosen.
What triggered the bigger picture for you and set you on your spiritual journey?
A wise person said many years ago that awareness of the spiritual journey was ‘caught not taught’. Those glimpses of the ‘something more’ often come at the darkest moments.
This is Barrie’s story: “I was about 37 when it became clear that my life was a mess. Ten years previously I had been a rising executive, working for an American corporation and living in relative luxury with my family. Now I was alone, unemployed, apparently unloved and living in a dilapidated room in southern France.
Returning to my unwelcoming quarters after another fruitless day of seeking employment I pondered what had brought me to this. My inability to find even the most menial work tipped me into a dreadful downward spiral. Over the previous decade I had intermittently been exposed to various ‘spiritual’ experiences. Now suicidal thoughts filled my mind.
Sitting in an uncomfortable armchair, mentally and physically exhausted, I suddenly decided that if any of my earlier experiences had been valid then this might be the moment to call upon the Creator for assistance. When it came to praying I was not entirely sure what one was supposed to do. Nonetheless, in the traditional manner I got on my knees and asked for help. I did so earnestly and out loud. I got a job the next day.
I did not make the connection immediately, but over the coming weeks and months I learned that divine help (if we ask for it) is available to all of us. For me, doors opened and my spiritual awakening dawned.
I joined the French Theosophical Society who loaned me helpful books in English. Some months later when I left France, I opened my own health food shop and later trained in healing, homeopathy, nutritional therapy and hypnotherapy. I like to think I now have some grasp of the spiritual dimension. I feel my own life would be meaningless without it.

Be the best you can be: a series of guided meditations
(guided meditations are journeys of the imagination which allow you to experience the energy for yourself, from within)
Beyond the polarity of light and dark
In your mind’s eye, allow the energy to feel very bumpy right now; very bumpy indeed. As though your boat is really caught in the middle of a storm and quite scary, because the waters are lapping into the boat.
You feel quite sick with fear. It is as though there could be calamity.
But now see there is a moon rising on the horizon and it feels very welcome indeed.
It is welcome because it is familiar; a reference point. It is as though all your concentration is taken to remember the familiar. Allow this moonlight to bring a sense of familiarity, of safety.
It is not threatening like the light of the sun, which would show up your true predicament in the boat. The gentle light of moon allows you to join its light and remember the dawn of your being now.
When you come down from the sunlight into the moonlight, you feel very safe indeed. You know that in the sunlight you would see your predicament in the waves, but in the moonlight you remember you are safe. It feels more benign, more peaceful, and kinder.
Right now the moon separates you from the light you came from and the darkness of your predicament. And when the light shines on your predicament in times to come, you will remember you are safe. You will know you are not, in reality, part of the polarised world of light and dark; that you need not be wholly engaged in the drama being played out for universal purposes.
You will know the truth; that you are held safely.
